The first article is of interest if you have a diesel car where the water pump is on the cam belt rather than the aux belt. It seems Saab have a problem with water pumps chewing the belt and the first hint of trouble was a loss of coolant. The water pump should be changed for a real Volvo one every cam belt service, otherwise you just might risk the same kind of failure.

The second forum link is interesting as it is about a V70 & V60 that had cam belt failures within the service interval. The pre tensioner failed, so not changing it does cause trouble and there was no mention of any symptoms.

The only V40 cam belt failures for the 1.9D that occured within the 100K km interval all had obvious causes like the wrong belt or tensioner not changed etc. Not found an in service limit failure so far, so it seems they must be using good parts.
