How do I enable Cruise Control?
Hi,
I've read conflicting information on how to do this - if anyone has enabled cruise control after fitting a new steering wheel with the controls - I'd really like to know for sure. My XC70 did not have Cruise Control buttons on the steering wheel. I've called my localish Volvo stealer and they were clueless... My '07 XC70 now has a new steering wheel fitted with the controls - volume controls work but as expected Cruise Control doesn't. Or maybe I can only enable it in over a particular speed or gear??? Not sure. Do I need VDASH or VIDA, or both?!? What's the process please? Thanks! Last edited by 960CD; Apr 23rd, 2024 at 10:07. |

just to clarify.. the 'cruise' button turns it on ready to use - you see the word cruise appear on the dash display and that can be done at any time even stationary but with the engine running
with that on then you can use the other controls over a certain speed (20 ?) is that not coming on or is that coming on but the other controls are not working |

Hi Stuart, the Cruise light doesn't illuminate with car running or driving.

If its the same car, if it didn't have a cruise button with the original steering wheel, it likely means that your car doesn't have cruise control installed. So changing the steering wheel won't make a difference. To enable cruise control, I think you need to be doing around 30mph. When you press cruise on the wheel, it lights up on the dash. Then press the up and down buttons to change speed accordingly with your foot off the accelerator. Make sure you aren't pressing the brake pedal accidentally, as braking disables cruise. Is it a base spec car by any chance?

no expert here but it seems to me that indicates either programming or button issue Vdash might be an option sorry I don't really know myself. failing that probably you have to ask the stealers I suppose for the VIDA method probably what you already suspected but just wanted to establish that as opposed to the various faults that can stop it engaging even though the display is lighting up (abs related, brake switch, clutch switch etc) Last edited by stuart bowes; Apr 23rd, 2024 at 10:45. |

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think its just as simple as software to enable it. I think there's some wiring involved too. Either a dealer or Volvo specialist would be your best bet, or maybe an auto electrician. Your car is too old for VDASH. It'll be VIDA.

Wiring was all there - simply plugged in.

You'll have to bring it to a specialist or dealer for them to programme it. It can't be done off a DIY VIDA setup.

Hi,
I looked into this previously. All you need is the correct steering wheel switch for the car and a trip to the main dealer/ specialist for the software install and activation. Refer a different dealer/specialist to this webpage: https://accessories.volvocars.com/en...0AWD/Automatic Best regards, Rich. |
