another d5 injector problem help please
Hi,
Just been told my 02 reg with 170k miles v70 d5 has the dreaded injector fault. £300 for a injector x5 starts to add up to too much money so looking for a cheaper way. Does anyone know if the injectors are programed to the car or is it possable to find some second hand and fit them? Or is it even possable to reprograme used injectors? i presume volvo would not be intrested in contributing due to the age and miles on the car , am i correct? Any one know if it is possable to get them reconditioned and if so any good places for this to be done in the manchester area? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers Andy |

I'm not aware of a trouble free cheap cure for the injector prob, I know a couple of people who have had rebuilt ones fitted only to be plagued by diesel knock / rattle afterwards; also bear in mind you must replace the rigid pipes as well

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. S60 driver. I did pm jim but he is unable to help on the d5 injectors. hobbyhorse. Not sounding like a cheap fix then? Can anyone else provide with me some info to make me smile lol. Other wise, At £1500 to fix may consider just selling as it is and moving on. What value would my car be worth in good order anyway. Cheers Andy |

Hi, not so long ago I thought I had an injector problem so I took the car to the dealer who said if it is an injector they would recommed changing all of them but if I wanted and they could try and locate the dodgy one and just change that. not sure if this is good practice perhaps someone on here will advise

Andy. I had the same problem and found only one injector needed changing, so I did, and it worked fine.
What you need to do is remove the engine cover and then remove the leak off pipe running along the top of the injectors. Start the engine and there should only be a very small accasional dribble of fuel. If any are pumping or gushing fuel then they are faulty. I am sure that "best practice" dictates changing all 5, but my wallet dictates only changing the faulty parts. I actually bought my injector through Bosch and changed it myself. was a bit fiddly but continues to work fine after approx 10,000 miles. Feel free to PM me if you need any other details Cheers Martin

Look for your local Bosch Service centre, Mine quoted 130 per injector max for a full refurb and says its normally only one that causes problems.

Apparently you have to have the same number on the injector as the ones that are in there otherwise it's a Volvo software issue. As overwoody says check with your local Bosch dealer they should be a lot cheaper. I'm going home (to sweden) next week & I'm checking out a few prices there so I might see what Injectors cost through my old contacts.

D5 Injectors
I have just had mine done, one injector playing up making starting very difficult. Took it to Potteries diesel in Stoke On Trent they tested and repaired the offending inj costing less than £200, including removal and refitting. Contact me for thier details if you would like, Bob

Hope this helps.......If you run a diagnostic check on the fuel system, it should show up which injector or injectors are faulty. Best of luck,
