v40 D2 diesel advice
I am looking to buy a diesel v40 after owning a s40 petrol for the last 7 years. I only do around 8000 miles if that a year and got told that the partical filter would block and is expensive to replace if i didn't use it much, is this true with diesel engines.

I would suggest that if you are only doing that mileage a year you would be better off considering a petrol V40. I have a 2016 V40 T2 petrol automatic and it averages around 39 mpg and no diesel particle filter issues to worry about and is much smoother to drive than the diesels.

Depends if your 8000 is short trips or long journeys.
Dpf's need to get hot, short trips mean they don't get a chance to clear. |

It only takes me about 15 to 20 mins to get to work, only reason im thinking about a deisel is its more desirable to sell with higher milage rather than a petrol engine and diesel gives more to the gallon. Thanks all

Hi, I have a 2014 V40 D2 R Design. I bought it over the petrol at the time because the deal was only available on the D2. My commute daily is about 15mins and the car now has only 16000 miles on it.
I haven't 'touch wood' had any such DPF problems thus far. Albeit I would probably have bought the T2 petrol had it been available purely because I prefer the way the petrol car drives. Hope this helps John |

At 8k a year, it's never going to have higher mileage so affect on resale value is negligible as is any cost saving on fuel.

Diesel for this mileage, I don't think it didn't make too much sense. Fuel consumption is a bit better, but there are plenty of other disadvantages. And the difference in reselling price, if you plan to keep the car for another 8 years... I don't think it would be as big as the difference on price that you have to pay now for the diesel (at least for me, diesel engine was around 1500 GBP more expensive than petrol). Anyway, it's the never ending debate diesel-petrol... there are arguments supporting both decisions |

Boom! Excellent result! No DPF issues, fair economy and great acceleration when needed! Bravo! :clap

Sorry to highjack/resurrect an old thread, but i have a similar question.
Contemplating buying a diesel, doing a 60 mile a day commute with a monthly 200 mile weekend journey, say an annual mileage of 15,000. Would i area benefit over petrol? |
