Software driven electrics
Does anyone know if the software for all available options such as heated seats, climate control etc. are actually stored in the ECU but 'switched off' for the options that were not installed in the car? This would seem to be the easiest way of catering for bespoke cars on a production line.
The wiring loom has all the connections and behind those blanked off switches are all the electronics for the corresponding equipment so I was just wondering if the software is there too and just requires unblocking. |

In the past I've added things like heated seats and extra lights with no problems. As you say the connections are already in place. I assume there is a common wiring loom. The latest models may well need a software fix, but older ones should be fine.
