my 164 as bought off ebay a few months ago.
Some time ago I bought this J reg 164 on e-bay and garaged it pending sorting out the workshop
well now it's partly a workshop ( are workshops ever finished? No) So having got the car its been dry garaged since purchase, so now time for some photos and stuff still to do here is the List 1 Very bad gear selection (broken mounting bracket on steering column and missing bushes on gear selector linkage) 2 fuel pump working but crap (fuel tank full of crap hence electric pump and filters) 3 Hand brake warning light on constantly 4 fog lights not working 5 PRND21 indicator not working (cable end missing) 6 Thermostat missing no anti freeze/corrosion inhibitor 7 Washer pump broken (replaced with accessory shop one) 8 Wet floors (been drying out carpets and under mats) 9 Headlight passenger side not working (hopefully just a bulb) 10 Battery cables need replacing (2 earth leads joined together ) 11 Petrol tank needs cleaning out and sealing 12 Carb linkage bushes missing 13 Oil leak from Differential cover 14 Rust!!!! (All the repair done are showing signs of rusting again) 15 Some poor repairs need finishing off properly (some bad welding but also some very good welding) 16 Brake pads all worn out (some to the metal backing, really could do with discs too to be fair) 17 Almost complete lack of rust protection on repaired sections 18 Passenger wing missing mounting plate and some bolts 19 Transmission oil leak 20 some clips and mounts missing from air filter housing 21 Needs respray 22 Sun roof mechanism faulty 23 Rusty panels especially wings doors arches (but chassis is very good ) So all in a lot still to be done, the only thing I have done so far is replace the steering column gear linkage mounting bracket (which is part of the steering lock) with a nice shiny new one from CVI Sweden it was about 12 quid. After some drilling swearing a bit of nifty work with a grinding tool its on and the selection is better but it still needs the bushes replacing to make it as good as it should be. when I get time..... Here are some photos attached |

Another 164 owner - well done, a good choice of car, but with my fleet I'm a bit biased! An owner in Norfolk I know has similar problems with his column-change lever pivot too: I drilled out the lock after recovering my 164 from thieves a couple of years back, so appreciate the need to swear a bit! Good you spotted the unfinished welding repairs before the rust gets a hold.
I am currently dismantling a floor-change auto 164 now I have probably sold its engine, so if you need any s/h bits...... Have you any pics of the entire car? If you are a new Forums member with insufficient posts to send PMs you may care to mail me direct on paultill@tesco.net if you need bits. Good luck with the car. Paul |
