Default Smelly!

2003 S40 2.0 T3

A few weeks ago the EMU light came on. I have a OBD reader and the error message was the Cat was performing under expected readings. Two days later the light went off of its own volition - fine!

BUT since then, I'm sure the performance of the car is not as good - they MPG reading is 37.8 Av (which is normal) but I'm convinced I'm going through petrol faster than before the EMU light was on. Also there is a fairly strong petrol smell when the engine is running and occasionally a slight hesitation when accelerating.

I had thought 'petrol leak' but can't find anything plus it's only smelly when running.

Is it possible that the Engine Management Unit has messed up the engine settings?

Has anyone any suggestions please?

Thanks

David
