Interest in V50's??
My wife an I are going through a big ole car change around at the moment - I have been offered a company car from work so I am taking that, and we're going to sell my V50 and my wifes Micra and buy an XC90 as a 'weekend' car (camping trips, towing, etc). So recently I have been advertising my V50 R Design but have had very little interest. It is in excellent condition, I have checked the Parkers guide for value and also checked the competition on Autotrader and I think it is a very fair price, but I have had only 2 calls in 3 weeks, one came to view and didnt buy and the other hasnt called back - I dont know what im doing wrong, is there just no interest in V50's? Seems odd as its the best car of its class IMO, and this coming from someone that changed from an A4 Avant. Anyway, what are your thoughts? Do they usually sell well? Wheres the best place to advertise?

Patience is the key. If you want a quick sale lower the price, If you want to sell it for it's deserved price just wait.
I sold a Discovery 3 last year and it took about a month and half. You just have to wait, someone will want it. Try different avenues - I have a friend local to me who sells cars privately. Usually gets someone to buy, you may lose a bit of value but he will sell it. Check locally for services like that. Otherwise there is Autotrader, Ebay Motors, Exchange and Mart, Motors.co.uk..... loads. The more it is seen the more likely it is to go. I am not sure what else would help you. Have you got an advert we can look at? |

Thanks, true enough I suppose, just really excited to get the XC90 but need to shift the V50 first (the micra is only worth about £1k).
It's on autotrader, not sure this link will work but: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...67dj?logcode=p |

What have the garage said for part-ex. There might be a bit of negotiation there? You will obviously get more money selling privately but it is a bit of a long game. (sometimes).
My Sister-in-law has the XC90 and loves it! I've only driven it once, have been considering part-ex the other Disco for it but do love it. Not sure if the Mrs would let me (yep, that is a thumb impression in my forehead). |

I havent asked any garages for part ex, im looking at spending about the same value on the XC90 (high miler) and I doubt they would like the idea of a straight swap, or even paying me! I appreciate I would have more leverage with a more expensive car but probably not in this instance. Webuyanycar.com offered me £6700 so thats a definite no! Do you think a garage/trader would offer more than them?

I'd say so. I'm quite fortunate to know someone in the business and he got me a good deal for mine, this was some while ago now but I think you might do better than £6700.

Parkers price guide is a little optimistic, the trade use Glasses price guide.
Also, I think you are being a bit over the top with the price. For example, my car albiet an 05 model SE (although fully loaded as was an up specced demonstrator at the start of its life) I bought from a Volvo main dealer with only 47k on the clock for £500 less than you are asking. I think if you were asking around 7.5k for it you would get some interest. Have you put a post in the for sale section on here? |

I have to say I've sold all my cars privately, and would say take parkers with a pinch of salt, there values are sometimes all over the shop, I would also say I find autotrade pretty useless for selling cars, I've used them a few times and never had any real interest, and for what you get they're quite expensive, I find the best places are car forums as som one looking fo a specific car will quite often look at the for sale bits of forums for that car (I know I do when I'm buying a new car), also gumtree and ebay are good places to sell cars I've sold 5 or 6 on ebay with no hassle and generally got what I was expect or more..

Your car being a facelift model is probably worth more than the 7.5k I suggested earlier but take in to account prices you have compaired on autotrader, are they from trade or private sale, as trade sellers have to give at least 3 month warranty. |
