Default High capacity USB HDD operational!

Hi all,

I've been attempting to sync a £45, 256 USB hard drive with the USB in the XC90, until now without success however I've cracked it and for any interested parties here how...

I used a freeware tool called Active@ Partition manager via google. It's very straightforward to use...no need to visit the instructions which download with the software.

The HDD came in NTFS format which I converted to FAT32. The quick format doesn't work, you'll need to uncheck the box which asks "quick format". It took about 4hrs to do on a 256GB unit.

I dragged and dropped my music folder in windows explorer to the HDD and hey presto! It worked first time.

No more faffing with CD's and no more plugging in my Iphone each journey. Job's a good 'un!

Hope that's been helpful to you.

Thanks

I can confirm that ST903204EXD101-RK 320GB Seagate External Portable Drive also work when partitioned.

I notice that maplin are doing the 250gb version for 35 quid

I'll give it a go and see if the same trick applies to connect an HDD to a Next base click and go dvd tablet player and to connect to my Blaupunkt HU in my alfa GT ...

Just to clarify, does it need iTunes playlists or will a FAT32 drive with folders and .m3u playlists work too?

I just copied the files in the folders, we have a NAS drive at home and itunes stores the music on that, so I just drag and dropped the folders. didn't copy anything other than folders and mp3 files.

There is a glitch sometimes, if you switch to the radio and back again after say 30 mins, the disc power save kicks in and it looses its place when you revert back and wont play, so you have to unplug and replug in again.

I would suggest a USB extension lead is handy.

Didn't work, there's a 500 folder/64000 track limitation (in the manual), won't have time to rejig it before I give the car back.
