Default inside a PCV box

I expected it to be of some use. Some sites mention its got magic and faires inside that if you dont change it your car will set on fire.

So, no point in changing them - save yourself the cash tbh. Soak yours in degreaser or something and reuse it. It shouldnt even matter which way round the top two hoses go from looking inside.

Not this is after i smashed it open to see what was inside. This didnt happen by itself.

? Not sure what you are getting at.... Mine was clogged, not completely, but it was getting there. Caused a lot of smoke to come from the dipstick. Mileage was down to 26.4 after it went up to 28 .5 or so

When I did mine I just cleaned it out with some paraffin in the ultrasonic cleaner and it's been fine ever since. Check it's not leaking or brittle first I guess!

/renewed the pipes which were a bit fall aparty though

What im getting at is that the first thing people will tell you is to spend £80 and replace the lot. Almost every post ive read on this subject says that the inside of the PCV box has complicated gubbins in it and must be replaced, and cannot be cleaned. I just wanted to demonstrate you dont need to nessicarily change it, obviously as long as its not cracked.

IF you had just cleaned it out you would have got the same result and saved yourself the £30 odd quid Volvo charge. I agree on the hoses though.

I too cut mine open and the stuff inside mine was absolutely rock solid! it was like granite.http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...ight=pcv+today Also the hole at the bottom of the oil trap was nearly blocked so I'm glad I replaced mine.As you say though,I was expecting there to be something magical inside! . Still my car is still running nice,no oil leaks and is hardly using any oil now.

Also as I said in my post.when you do it for the first time, you are not sure of what you need, that is why IMO the full kit is the best idea. The stuff in my oil trap would not be dissolved.Maybe you could chip it away? After the hassle of pulling the manifold off,I didn't want to be doing it again,so I'm glad I replaced the lot.

Right. IF you need the full kit because like me you need your car off the road for as short a time as possible contact RUFE on here.IF you don't use your car everyday you could strip it down and just replace the bits necessary.

This is how to contact Rufe, and when you ring quote C3 to get your discount.

Or to get the bits separate go to http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...oAplHAEPPEFFlQ and match up what you need.
