v70 Classic Central Locking
2000 Classic v70 Estate
The central locking has failed to the tailgate and the boot is locked shut. Behind the flap on the outside there is just some kind of bung whereas other cars I have looked at have a key for manual opening. I have tried to remove it but it will not budge. The boot release on the drivers door does not work and I have tried to reset the UEM. I don't want to start attacking the trim from the inside so is there a way to release the tailgate since Volvo seem not have fitted a manual key lock to this model? |

I'll head out and get a picture of the interior of the tailgate, and hopefully shed some light on it all for you. Probable cause? The wire inside the hinge that activates the locking does eventually snap, it's then a case of popping off the d-pillar trim (on the passenger side IIRC) and the trim panel that runs along the rearmost window. In there you will find the wires; trace them to the hinge area, and then with a scalpel blade or similar open up the tape that is wrapped around it all, find the broken cable and fix it (either solder or twist and tape). This also fixed the bulb failure light I'd get on braking on bumpy roads, as the high level rear light cable had gone as well. Hope that helps. Ed

Got some photos now:
This little white clip is what I used to push to unlock the tailgate when mine went wrong; one position is unlocked, one is locked (obviously) Here are the colour wires you're looking for for the central locking mechanism And here's the hinge area where they go wrong. The trim is held in place with a single T25, once that's out it just pops off to reveal that area. I suspect that the fault is in that section there, somewhere! Fortunately mine went intermittently, so I I would wiggle the tailgate violently and hope it would open! Good luck!

I know when I first got my V70 I thought that they was something wrong with my car when I saw the 'bung' there. I remember somebody telling me that my car had 'definitely' been in a smash!!
Anyway. I saved the barrel from my V90 when I broke it in case I may be able to fit it in this car one day. My question is has anybody come up with preventative solution to avoid going through what these 2 posters have?
