The de-gas gas then, must have been more dense than the re-gas gas.

Before you go and buy anything i would suggest you go to ats euromaster and get them to check the aircon just act dumb and say it dont work they will then pressurise it and tell you where the leak is,on mine the nuts numbered 5 on the diagram above needed tightening and it fixed my problem. The check is completely free of charge and so was the repair which was a 2 minute job.

Talking this is an update for the air con

things have taken a while to get fixed as unemployed, but got there in the end...had to buy a new aux belt from volvo as someone had put a shorter belt on as the air compressor was kaput.... so i had to buy a second hand air con compressor from ebay(£35)...and a brand new air con condensor from ebay(£50)....i went to halfords in foss islands rd york to have the air con done as i got a discount including them using an anti bacterial cleaner all for £49(thanks steve).and also the last so called specialist i took it to,i caught him letting the gases out into the atmosphere...before trying to re-gas it...mmmmmm....thanks to all on here for your advice and a diagram(gatos) i was able to change the air con compressor and the air con condensor...i made one mistake.when i removed the air condensor and put the new one in,i never put a washer on before tightening one of the bolts.so halfords found a leak and fixed it(no extra charge).i was told by someone that before you tighten the bolts to the condensor,to put some vaseline around the edges of the holes..thanks again everyone for the your help and advice, all nice and cool.

Good job Neanderthal. I've also got a black V40, and by god do you need the aircon on a blazing sunny day with these cars. I've got a temp gauge in mine monitoring the cabin temp, the record temp in the car (when its parked) so far, 60°C! Thats hotter than my sauna!
