Default HELP..Swirl Arm Info Please

Hello guys.
What exactly does the swirl arm do.
I think(not sure till Monday...or one of you guys tell me)that mine is broke.
I have had to replace the swirlarm twice in the past 2 years but i got the usual Engine System Service Required so i looked at the Swirl arm and it was off so i tried to replace it and noticed the black piece that is fitted to the engine is loose and can be moved...is this correct or should it be secure.
Thanks.

Sorry to hijack your thread.
Can someone tell me why I DON'T get an error message with a disconnected swirl arm?
Like yours, my little lever coming out of the engine is very loose. Does that indicate something is broken inside?

Not quite the same problem. Mine doesn't show an error message and doesn't go into limp mode (at least, not yet). The little plastic crank coming out of the head is very loose and doesn't need any force to move it. Does anyone know if it should be like that?

The swirl valves are supposed to be closed at tick-over and open fully above 3000rpm. What position should the little crank arm be in for fully open? I'd like to secure them open and forget about the damned control motor. I know people (including Clan) have said that it will go into limp home, but mine has never done it, even after blasting it frequently to 4000rpm.

One thing I do get though, is an intermittent miss. It comes and goes with no pattern, usually brought on with hard acceleration in a relative low gear. Could this be to do with swirl valves? Or is it something more obvious?

Thanks Hasse53 that info tells me the black plastic piece shouldnt be loose as it operates the opening/shutting of the ports inside.

Has anyone else had this problem ans is it a DIY fix or does my beloved D5 have to go to the docs....

That's just one of a lot of info on the site, do a search.

Your dealer is the best option for correct swirl arm, I believe there are different model types.
