Default ACEA A5/B5 Engine Oil

For my MY2010 V70 2.4L diesel, Volvo recommend Castrol Formula SLX RTec 0w30 complying with ACEA A5/B5 at 18000mile/12month intervals. The car's done 23000 miles in 4 years. I'd like to use the recommended Castrol oil but where to buy it at a sensible price?

Difficult to find in other than commercial containers. I get mine from our local dealer but only for top ups. Changes are done at the scheduled service interval by MRG.

Try Opie Oils for a range of 0w30 A5/B5 lubes.

I use Costco...last time it was £18+VAT for 4 litres of Castrol ACEA A5/B5...(but that was 5w30 which is fine for our climate - or at least it says that in my owners manual), unless of course you expect temperatures below minus 30...

As JP11 says, Opie Oils (and also Nielson http://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/ ) often have good deals.... Usually half the cost of Halfrauds...

OPie is also a good source of fluid for the geartronic if you change that...

Slightly cheaper at Nielsen today (by £1/litre)

Castrol make 2 types of A5/B5 oils in 0W-30.

There's the regular Edge 0W-30 A5/B5 that Opie sell, then there's the Edge Professional 0W-30 A5/B5 that's harder to find.

As you'd expect the specs are the same, so the professional probably only has a UV die in it.

Can be had for 8.99/L hereL

Just realised that that's not a UK website, so if you don't want to fool around ordering from abroad this place also sells it. Just check the cost per 1L because when I bought some recently it was cheaper to buy 4 x 1L than a 1 x 4L

Yep professional only has a uv dye in it.

The second link the normal edge is not a5/b5 rated only the professional version it then looses any advantage on cost working out more than Opie after discount.

You can get it at halfords or or could do as that is were my last lot came from, but you need to check carefully to get the volvo version. Catalog code 325289 £46.99 for 4L.
It is not cheep ,but a halfords trade card helps.
I now use Mobil 1 0w/40 new life, but it dose no meet the full standard A5/B5 , and change the oil at a lower mileage .
The reason for this is 1: I can get it a lot cheaper ,and it comes in 5L tubs instead of 4L
Also my car does not do that high a mileage per year.
The main thing is to get a low ash type for the particle filter on your car.
My car being a T6 is probley not as fussed about the oil as a D5

How about this:

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68989-mo...ngine-oil.aspx

Not quite costco cheap but it does meet all the requirements and a single change is £49.

Cheers,
