Quick update. Problem found to be immobiliser. Anyone have any idea where I could get a full key set along with immobiliser box and ecu for an 850r or a t5?
Simon

Car basically starts and stops again after 2 seconds so immobiliser is engaged. But the car never came witha keyfob so I cant lock and unlock the car to reset it. Or is a different procedure I need to do?

Key fob drives the central locking and car alarm, and is a completely seperate system from the immobiliser.
The immobiliser is driven from the chip in the ignition key. The signal from the chip is picked up by the antenna ring which goes around the ignition barrel and is interpreted by the immobiliser as being valid or not. Clearly on your car this isn't happening - I take it you are using the proper Volvo key intended for this car?

the antenna ring is not coded to the car, the key is.
therefore replacing the antennae ring (£35 from volvo) and making good the wiring should resolve the issue.

The codes from the immo box can be read and it shows what is wrong (key or ECU or something different). If you swap an engine with a different type (N/A to turbo or viceversa) the immo will detect that and kick in.
Also ECU from 96 onwards need the confirmation signal from the immo box in order to run after the 2 seconds and if you fit an ECU from a 96 car in a pre 96 car without the immo system it will also not run. |

Engine is definitely later 1996 ecu codes match up to an 850r manual. Shell is a 1995 2.0 glt on tax book so must have had Volvo guard 1 fitted. The retrofitted volvo guard 2 kit looks a shambles so I might just get the proper loom for it from a newer car and make it right. Guy had 2 wires running to ecu. One for what I believe is the start inhibitor circuit for the ecu and the other an earth or something as its spliced into a wire for fault code reading from what I can see. If I could I would do away with the entire thing as I just need this car going. I can get a good aftermarket central locking kit put into her and just have a switched immobiliser in a hard to reach place. Car is parked in a garage always so dont really need it. Has anyone ever de-immobilised one of the motronic 4.4's? Removing start inhibitor?

You need to rewrite the ECU Software in order to kill the immo function in the ECU. Just with wiring you will gain nothing,.

Is there anybody in the uk who has the capability of flashing the ecu to remove the immobiliser function? I just really need the car running and driving asap with as little hassle as possible.
I will not let this car beat me haha. Simon
