Default Front Cup Holder Flap Not Staying Down

Hi, does anyone know how fix this problem:
The flap covering the front cup holder is not staying down……….and I don’t know how to fix it…..it’s doing my head in…!!!

PS…….Apologies if this has been covered in any prior post, couldn’t find anything.

It is probably caused by coins and other stuff falling down the front and jamming the latch. You would be amazed what can be in there.

Another option if you want a quick fix or if you find that the mechanism is knackered when you pull it all apart is to use magnets.

Simply take apart (destroy!) one of those magnetic cupboard catches from B&Q, they contain two small rectangular strong magnets.

Put them together (magnetically) and using double sided tape or number plate fixing pads from Halfords, mount them to the triangular shaped piece of plastic between the cup holder apertures, place another piece of tape or pad on top of the magnets and close the lid.
When you open it again, by pressing down close to the gear lever surround, the upper magnet will be fixed to the lid and the lower one fixed to the cup holder....job done!

I did this last year and it's worked brilliantly, the only drawback is that sometimes in hot weather the tape adhesive softens and the spring-loaded lid flips open, I ended up gluing my upper magnet to the lid and it's never happened since!

Hope this helps?

did my the other day, using the above thread. Just make sure the bar is resting against the lid as shown in the pictures. Mine was in the centre of the unit (Pivit point) when I opened it up. Move to the side and work straight away. Of course I cleaned out when in there.

Sounds like a great idea, but can’t quite visualise it. Any chance of a few pictures?

Is it these pictures you’re talking about?
If yes, could you put pointers on them, can’t see the parts you mentioned.

Yes the bottom picture is the one that really shows the bar in the correct position (Sorry at work so can not add pointer)
Its the long bar to the left got the centre post/pivit. going vertical. If you place it in that position that should work (Unless there is other damage) Clean and grease you should be good to go.
