Question Trip computer

Please forgive me if this has already been posted, I had a quick look and can't see the same problem anywhere else on the site but may have missed it.

I have a 2002 ex plod T5 (189k) and have recently been perplexed by an intermittent problem with the trip computer. The display will sometimes be OK for a minute or two when I start the engine, then after a while the whole thing goes haywire, showing upside down letters, completely scrambled jibberish or just showing a dull backlight glow.

A bit of background knowledge which may or may not be connected is that I had the fuel pump and sender replaced in April. The problem started about 6 weeks after this work.

Then, when I filled the tank up a couple of weeks ago I noticed a strong smell of petrol and found that the tank was leaking from where the access panel is under the rear seat. It seems that the garage that replaced the fuel pump and sender hadn't tightened it down properly. I removed the fuel gauge unit (thing with all the springs and stuff on), cleaned the area of some dirt and replaced it. The fuel gauge on the dash was funny for a day or two afterwards, only reading half full when I'd just put £50 in but is fine now. This made no difference to the operation of the trip computer.

Has anybody got any ideas what the problem may be and how to resolve it?

sounds like a Driver Info Module problem..been addressed here before and not cheap to fix..as its car/chassis specific...looking at £600+ for a new one...is it worth bothering with?

Ouch, not as important as I first thought then.
