Default How to build a DIY Flash Code Reader 850 Phase 2, '70 10V

here is your obd port under the coin rack....visual courtesy Chris_Rogers (not that he knows lol)

connect a wire from the + out feed port, number 16 securing the wire into the port with a paperclip, to a 12volt led......ignore the in line resistor in the picture
connect two wires to the other port of the led....connect one lead to port number 3, again a paper clip will be usefull....
with the ignition off the light should illuminate
turn the key to pos II and the light will go out.....

the next step, with key at pos II is to dip your spare wire into port number 5 for a couple (2/3) seconds..., your lamp will illuminate...after a couple of seconds remove the wire from port number 5 and watch the lamp....
it may take a few tries to read the flashes as there will be a pause between each digit for you to record....
for instance the normal, nothing wrong code is
flash.........flash.........flash........
the code for 1-2-3 is
flash.........flash....flash............flash..... flash.....flash.....
it will become obvious when you see it........
to delete any codes insert the port 5 wire for FIVE second and remove and wait...after a moment or two the light will flash, immediately and before the light goes out reinsert the wire to port 5 for another 5 seconds..., this may need to be done several times before you get the hang of it.....
by moving the wire from port number 3 to port number 6 and carrying out the same proceedure you can check your climate control ecu
by moving the wire from port number 3 to port number 13 and carrying out the same proceedure you can check your cruise control ecu although you will have to drive the car over 20 mph and not removed the key before you check this, ie to turn off the car turn to position I and then back to II
cheers

Excellent, been looking for this for ages so I can diagnose a fault on my climate control. However, the post is a tad meaningless unless there is a link or description of what the flash codes mean... anyone know where this can be optained.

Also, I like playing with electronics and PIC micro's and this sort of thing is just crying out to be turned into an electonics project, with the codes being read by a micro and turned into a simple text description on a 2 x 16 LCD screen...

I've just picked up a haynes manual (3573) "S70, C70 & V70 1996 - 1999 " and I can't find any reference to a list of codes

Looks like a quick google is in order

Thanks for the advice. In between posting I knocked up an LED and a tactile switch on a bit of stripboard and soldered a few wires on it too..

Armed with the DIY tester and a copy of the first post I toddled off to the car. I followed the instructions and connected the wires to pins 16, 3 and 5. The LED did not light as stated, however I turned the ignition on to II and pressed the switch for around 2 seconds which caused the LED to light whilst the switch was pressed. The LED went out and then shortly after there was three flashes as described

I then moved the wire from 3 to pin 6 and repeated the procedure, but this time the LED did diddly squat Repeating this several times I still couldn't get the LED to display any code flashes at all

Thanks for the help though
