Columba's over 302mm Discs
I have always believed that no way could i upgrade to 302mm discs without replacing the 16" columba alloys but after a little tip form IRF i realised that with a little persuasion this mod can be available to anyone with a t5, no matter what alloys you have....
Stage 1....start with a std 280mm disc and columba alloy Stage 2....source some 302mm discs and hangers (from siamblue).... Stage 3....remove the caliper, hanger and disc..... Stage 4....replace the disc, hanger and caliper..... Stage 5....reach for the angle grinder Stage 6....grind the life out of the 4 raised fins leaving the top of the caliper as flat as you can... Stage 7....refit wheel and admire your handywork..... Stage 8....go for a drive and admire your new stopping ability.... the brake hose is a little tight at full lock and i may consider getting some longer hoses maybe i will make up some braided ones to be on the safe side.... This has to be best, cheap mod around and should be first on any modders list.... cheers jod

the grinding was the best part and you know i have become quite fond of the columba's tho siamblue did have a set of peggo's for sale that i was tempted with but i think they have gone now.... cheers jod

Hi,
Silly question maybe, but those nice fins you ground to death, do they serve a purpose? Will having them ground off affect the performance of the brake system at all? /Eyes angle grinder attractively.. Des. . .

Hi Jod,
Nice work mate. Question: Are the 302 hangers a Volvo part only or is there an aftermarket version? |

Let me know when it comes to your next MOT. A good garage won't pass your car with any erosion on brake parts, whether you tell them the reasons why or not.
