Default Handbrake adjuster cable

Arrgghhh, I have just tried to adjust the cable on the handbrake and the adjuster bolt has snapped. Now I know I need a new cable and will be able to put it on no bother, however when I am trying to take the old one off there is a peice of metal retaining it, its just under the handbreak and appears to be part of the actual handbrake lever itself. Is it just a case of bending it back and removing the cable and then putting in the new one before bending it back into place or is it more complex than that. Also to tighten the handbrake do I need to do it at the back wheels?? its a great car but the problems I have had with it over the last 2 weeks is beggining to annoy me

Hi, yes, there is another screw at the front which is hidden under the cup holder rubber insert.
