Wink S40 2004 to R Design Conversion/Modification

Hi all

Well after the database crash I have lost all my valuable posts so sorry to dissappoint. I have uploaded some pics of the conversion from 2004 to R design 08/09 model.
The bumpers are now sprayed up in 452 Sapphire black and I have received all the parts from Volvo to complete the transformation including sprayed up lower spoiler at front and rear lower valance.
You can see in the pic that the new headlights are a wedge shape and there is a gap at the bottom with the original bumper. The new bumper will make up the gap as the profile is different. The light connections are the same at the front. The wires need to be swapped around with the rear lights though as the brake/dlr lights are in different places. connectors into the back of the rear lamp are the same.
With the new rear lamp fitted (which follows the same profile and same fixings) there is a gap underneath which like the front headlamps, the new bumper makes up as its taller.
The only thing that doesnt fit is the new matt chrome mirror covers, these are a bigger size and wont fit so grab yourself a bargain on Ebay! I am having my existing ones sprayed up in an alloy chrome paint which will be virtually identical.
I bought Serapis alloys refurbed for £500 off Ebay - look like new.
It all goes together tomorrow so will upload some more pics if the volvo forum allows me. the s/s duale xhaust gets fitted saturday together with window tinting. p.s. dont forget that if you do carry out any mods then let your insurance company know. I phoned them and iot wnet up annually by £89 so wasnt too bad.

I also put up a post (now gone!) about FM hard wired modulator which I installed using the 9v battery method which enables me to plug in my iphone/mp3 player and tune in through the radio.

If you need any info then let me know.

The last three pics above will be the end result but with Serapis alloys as pic below and not the Atreus ones shown in first front end pic.

Cool

Thanks

Exhaust is being fitted today and window tinting.

The only problem I encountered was although I had ordered a rear light from volvo, it didn't come with the bulbholder which is needed for the new light fitting. The rear light I bouhgt off Ebay had the bulbholder with it so I thought it came as standard.
I have temporarily rigged up the brake light and indicator until the holder comes tuesday. Everything else went together a dream.

Serapis alloys being fitted Saturday.

Window tinting came out a mess as it was too cold to adhere to the windows so this is being re-done in warmer weather.

I'm awaiting LED strips which will be mounted in the fog light insert at the top(flush) and connected to the DLR's, this then nearly finishes the car. The only thing outstanding is the side sills so if anyone has any 2nd hand or spare ones please let me know.

Cheers

Hi Jonnie could you provide more details about the hard wired fm modulator mod?

Thanks

No problem.

Buy an fm modulator off ebay, one with a analogue in and out.

On the back windscreen of the S40 under the plastic panel on the right of you if you were sitting on the back seat there are 3 9v battery connectors on the windscreen (top right corner). 2 are positive and the other single one, negative.

What you need to do is chop off with enough cable length the output connector of the fm modulator and buy some 9v battery connectors off ebay.
strip back the wires, inner core and outer sheafing and connect two female 9v button connectors to the the inner wire (this will go onto the two buttons on the windscreen), connect another one to the outer sheafing, this will go to the single button on the windscreen. Once wired up and taped up connect this to the windscreen. Slot the end connector into the input of the modulator. On the other end which is bare (the output of the modulator you chopped up) strip back the wires and connect 3no male button connectors, 2no to the inner core, 1no to the outer sheafing and tape up. These then connect to the original connectors that you took off the windscreen. The fm modulator is then wired up in-line between the windscreen and amp. Connect the phono wires and tap into a 12v source for the power, a spare output socket is in the mass of wires beneath the amplifier - i think to connect a fridge. Feed the phono leads under the carpet and to the centre armrest, tune into the selected channel on radio and away you go. Will try and find pics and a link to another pos on swedespeed.
