Default S40 Side Marker Light - How to Replace Bulb

Hello very basic question from a new S40 owner, my rear side marker light has burnt out i've bought a replacement bulb easy enough but how do you remove the amber rectangular lens to change bulbs? The marker lights are the 4 small rectangle ambers 2 on each side of car. Any insight would be apppreciated - Cheers rahskiuk@aol.com

Default RE: S40 Side Marker Light - How to Replace Bu

unfortunately the marker light is a sealed unit and a new one must be purchased, as they can not be opened to replace a new bulb.
unless of course anyone knows different, perhaps there is a way around it!

The bulb is part of an integral circuit board in the light.

£24 at my last service to have one changed!

Default bulb replacement

press the lamp backwards and pull out, turn bulb anti clockwise and replace with 3 watt W2.1X9.5D bulb.
this applies to phase two models, prior to that,it is a sealed unit.

This should be made into a sticky! You can replace the bulb on the sealed phase 1 units - have done it myself with silicon sealant:

Stupid question maybe, but is that bulb (3 watt W2.1X9.5D) different to a 501 bulb as used in the registration lamp ?

Well, I was thinking about this kind of thing and arguably we could try to develop a sort of FAQs section - I think some of the other models' forums have them. At first I thought: bad idea, because it would be far too much work for anyone to begin, let alone see through to completion... but then I was thinking: what if it simply consisted of a steadily growing set of sticky threads, each pulling together http references to a collection of relevant previous threads, under a brief summary for some relatively common and clear-cut issue. It could work for at least some FAQs, surely.

Yes, we have the search function but on something like the marker light or the ticking glovebox where it's well known what the sum of the wisdom is, it could be a useful shortcut and it would be more useful to the solution-seeker if the situation were first summed up in a couple of paragraphs, with links to relevant threads that could also be helpful ... what do you reckon?

Default Side marker light

I have done a "fix" on one of the rear ones as I find paying over the odds for such a simple fix so annoying.

I removed the unit from the car, carefully removed the black mess that is the bulb and sealer on the light. Cleaned it all up and the using a suitable bulb holder and a 5w bulb. Resealed with silicone glue and let to set. This can take a little while especially when its cold so put on top of a cup of water. Heat from that was enough to get it to set.

Refitted to car and has been okay for almost 12 months now.
