Default Handbrake disaster

This is what happens when you decide to leave checking your shoes.

Found exactly what i needed on here guys to sort me brakes - thank-you, but i left it last weekend "cos it was raining"

What a disaster.

Christ! thats going to be expensive, did this happen at speed? The amount of damage is crazy are you going to need a new wheel hub?

yes a new hub housing casting is £350 alone , best fixed with used parts here ...

One tip is always change the rear shoes when the discs are changed only £30 extra ...

I was doing approx 30 mph and I was about 200 yards from home.

I've managed to source the hub carrier with backplate complete for £70 plus vat from a local scrapyard.

It's on a 2001 2.0 t mines a 2002 2.4 T somebody please tell me its the same one !!

Default Handbrake shoes

Sorry to read about(and see)the damage caused by your brake linings detatching from the shoes.What makes it so much more costly to repair is the seemingly pointless design where the anchor for the shoes is cast alloy and is part of the hub.I would have thought that a metal anchor bracket integral with the backplate (as on 240s and 940s)would have been more sensible,and much stronger.
Does anyone out there know why v70s etc. have the shoe anchor cast as part of the hub?

Yes i would say to prevent the rear wheel locking in such an event , Thats what happens in practice , the hub breaks to take the shock then the shoes etc rotate and keep the wheel rolling with friction until the car stops .
