Anyone know where the Fuel Pump Relay is?
Hi all,
As described in the title, my fuel pump is constantly on from the moment i turn the key (i.e. never stops priming). I have checked the system for leaks, including injectors stuck open, and can find nothing. Anyone come across this issue before? If there's no other logical reason why it's doing this, I'm thinking the previous owner may have hot wired the fuel pump straght to the ignition for some reason. Though I'm struggling to think of what this could be masking! The previous owner had bypassed the headlighter adjuster circuit, and also placed a bypass wire from a pin on the 'engine' relay straight to the chassis / -ve (and for some reason the coils wont spark without this bodge!) - so I dont doubt theres a chance he's screwed with the fuel pump electrics too. I was going to look at the relay, and whether it was stuck on there - but don't know where it is! The box in the engine bay names the fuel pump fuse, but not the relay. Anyone know where it's hiding? As mentioned, I'm getting terrible MPG, so dont think it'll pass the MOT at this rate :-( Any help is much appreciated! Thanks Joe (V40 2.0l Petrol) Last edited by Frogger-V40; May 25th, 2010 at 20:01. |

the fuel pump relay should be in the engine bay fuse box (which has a cover on it). in our v50 thats lhs near the windscreen.

Cheers, but I cant seem to find it there - I can find a fuel pump fuse and an 'ENGINE' relay - but this relay seems to control the signal to the coil packs rather than the fuel pump. ... confused :-/

Oops - just broke the bonnet release lever whilst going to check the VIN!
After using vise grips and pliers to operate the cable, i can report my VIN is... YV1VW1603VF033369 I also just realised I think I was talking rubbish about the year - its more likely to be a 96ish model (its got a personalised plate so not entirely sure). That may explain why the engine layout is a bit different from the one pictured above. Thanks |

shame about the latch
you got the right vin but i am not entirely sure what your are after. if you wiring diagrams look for Volvo S40 V50 Wiring Diagram and Cable Harness e.g. http://www.wiringdiagrams21.com/cate...tive/volvo/v40 otherwise the relays and fuses are both within thte engine bay and the dashboard. |
