Default Differential ratios

Hi,
I've tried the search facility but didn't find what I was looking for... Is there a list anywhere of what diiferential ratios were fitted to what models of 7 and 9 series cars for the UK market? I have a 1991 940 TD estate with the D24T engine but it is very low geared and I would like to fit a higher final drive back axle. (it has the overdrive M46 gear box)
Cheers
Jim

There should be a label on the back of the left hand axle shaft near the hub. It will probably be covered with underseal and dirt but can be cleaned carefully with white spirit.
The label will indicate the axle type (1030/1031/1041) and the final drive ratio (3.31:1 / 3.54:1 / 3.73:1 / 3.91:1 / 4.10:1).

Thanks for that, but is there a list anywhere of which models had what fitted?

My '91 230FB (no turbo) with ZF autobox has 3.91 final drive.

Can other folk post up their ratios, so we can build up a table?

Some of the owners handbooks list diff ratios but don't say what cars they were fitted too. It's probably best to look. My car has the actual ratio on the label.

I do believe that early 760 diesel autos that had a borg warner gearbox had a ration of 3.15 : 1. I could do with one of those! I'll have a look at mine and post on here what it is.

I've got a 1992 owners manual for a 940 and it lists a 3.31:1, doesn't say what that was fitted to though. You would think that with the torque of the diesel thats the one that is fitted.
It wuld be interesting to hear what your car has though. My FT manual turbo has a 3.91:1 diff at the moment (car used to be an auto) and it revs a bit high really. It should have a 3.54:1.

My 2.3 lpt (B230FK) has 3.54:1 diff.
I think the hpt had the 3.73:1 diff.

No, the label on the axle tube is the best way.
