I have not had a look yet, but plan to swap the thermostat on the D5 this weekend.

Had a quick search and not found any stories on the job.

I see the petrol is a hassle, but the diesel?

Any comments?!?!

The D5 thermostats seem remarkably reliable , petrol ones seem to fail after about 120000 miles but D5 seem to go on way past this ..

Hi

Well, this swp is in the hope of making the heater work... and the top hose is getting warm just as the temp gauge leaves the stop, so guess it must be open....

Is it an easy access or is it a power steering pump removal to get access?

you could be right then , There are a few different variations on the D5 the thermostat is quite expensive too as it is part of the cover .
Yes on some you have to take the power steering pump off and there is a hole on the mounting bracket to allow a torx driver through to undo the lower thermostat housing screw . This hole is small so you need to look carefully for it !

Thanks Clan - good advice.

Is there a separate EGR thermostat on these ala BMW?
