can anyone please tell me if you can plug a cd changer into the back of this unit and if so do i need a specific one.

If there is a button on the front panel labelled "CD" then you should be able to plug it into the back. Mine is CR906 and has this feature. Check in your owner's handbook for radio information (on my 760 this was a seperate booklet, on my 940 it is at the back of the handbook).

If you can, you need a Volvo one which costs a fair amount. However, these are actually Alpine units and you can buy an Alpine and a conversion kit. Do a search online. However, I do not think a 902 can be connected to a CD changer.

I think the clue is in the radio type "CR-902" which surely means Cassette-Radio 902. My CR-906 is a Cassette-Radio which has provision for CD input from seperate CD changer which is either in the boot or under one of the seats.

Although in most cases Volvo audio is made by Alpine, the cr902 is in fact made by Mitsubishi, how old is it and can you post pics of the front and back or describe the connections?

There are no cd controls on the fascia so it's unlikely to be compatible with a changer.

If you look closely at the picture, you will see that the cassette flap carries the legend "CD" just in front of "RDS". So the CR902 CAN have a CD changer plugged into it.

No, sorry Peter but that is the symbol for RDS. That does not say CD, just looks like it. What you need to do, if you want a CD changer, is to get either a CR906 say, that can take either a Volvo CD changer or an Alpine with adapter or get a third party system from say Kenwood or Sony. Either is an easy install and will not cost the earth if you stick to the standard stuff, these things can also be bought on e-Bay. I have Kenwood headunit and CD changers in my two daily drives and a Kenwood cassette radio in the 440 and a Sony CD player in the GL. All bought second hand and all working just fine.

Another alternative is a standalone cd changer with fm modulator and control pad such as this one.

I know sony do units like this in the UK, it transmits to the car audio via a spare frequency on the fm band and can therefore be added to any fm equipped radio regardless of age.
