I'm not from Sweden, but spend as much time there as I can. I worked there for 6 months in 2000 (my first visit) and never wanted to to come back. Just got back from my latest trip this weekend. Hoped I might see a few P1800's around, but no such luck - weather was great though, as usual :)

Weather great, ha! Just spoke to my dad, 5-7 degrees C in Stockholm and rain. We have 22 and sunshine, pool is open and the flowers blooming. [Very long list of bad things about Sweden]. Yeah, you guessed it, I hate Sweden. You go there, might even out the balance as I ain't going back... Yorkshire here I come!

I can guarantee you’ll get more rain in Yorkshire than Stockholm.

Dom.

Yeah, of course I do but the tea is nicer, the fires warmer, the ale tastier, the people friendlier and the moors more beautiful. But that's just me.

....but the coffee isn't as nice, there aren't as many lakes to swim in in summer (when it stops raining), not as much snow in winter, the Yorkshire aquavit isn't as good :)

I guess its true that you don't always appreciate what you're used to having everday - I suppose I have to admit that Yorkshire is a pretty nice place to live, but I've lived in the same town in Yorkshire all my life and of my experiences working in a few places in Europe, Sweden was the best.

Mr Kippling may make exceedingly good cakes, but the Swedes make exceedingly good cars.

To each his own Dominic, I think you might be on to something... although I do not drink coffee.

Henrik, why did I leave... well, here is the full list:

Swedes are lacking in sexual moral
Swedes are treating their language very badly, they swear far too much and have lost all ability to spell, conjugate and use the appropriate words
Sweden has been ruled by the Social Democrats since 1932, this has given them a very strange attitude to social justice and to personal freedom
Winters in Sweden are cold, dark and wet. Do not give me the "I love snow" crap, not if you live in an urban or suburban area, no you don't, not for 4-5 months of the year. Remember, this is not snow, but muddy water or ice, everywhere ice! It gets light at 9 am and dark at 3 pm.
Swedes are obsessed with healthy living and exercise, my mother in particular thinks that you will die if you eat more that two crisps a day.
I think, also, after 20 years in the same house in the same suburb I wanted change and once I had gone abroad (Germany, then England) coming back became harder and harder, I felt more and more alienated. Once I was married (to a Yorkshire lass), I felt that I had passed the point of no return. I actually decided already when I was 10 that I would live in England. My dad and I went to England in his red 240 and drove around for 2 weeks, I loved it. I thought it was the most wonderful place on earth. I still do, I get all emotional already when the train leaves the tunnel and you can see Kent.

Well your name IS George the same as the patron saint of England, so you should wave your flags (Cross of St.George of course).

All the best, Peter
