I purchased a S60 in March and had a Volvo towbar fitted. I have the same problems with the electrics as outlined by the article by Dennis LeWorthy. I have just taken my car back to have an earth cable fitted from pin 11 of the 13 pin socket. This was relatively easy as the the cable had not been cut off from the harness and had just been left loose. I had to make the following changes in the 13pin/7pin adapter on the 12S (white) plug.
Move Red/blue cable from pin 6 to pin 7
Move yellow cable from pin 2 to pin 6.
This then gives the correct connection from the 13 pin to 7 pin plug as described in Dennis's article.
Everything should now work.
It seems as this is a generic Volvo problem across all models. My garage showed me the Volvo instructions which said "pin 11 not connected".
When are Volvo going to get up to date with the electrics and in line with everyone else in the Caravan industry?
