Does anyone know of a company that can weld new steel rims onto Volvo steel centres? I want to use 6" wide rims on my 122s to give better support for the tyres but retain the appearance of the original steel wheels and hub caps. I saw an article from a guy in New Zealand who has done this successfully and wondered if anyone in the UK has done the same?

Iain,

You can buy new one's from Nordicar in Holland, they are about 46 Euros + tax each, you can view them at http://www.nordicar.com/ukindex.html ,go to online parts page 1 and scrowl down.

Thanks for that Steve, are you sure about the price though? I got them to quote me a price for 4 wheels - 616 euros + 100 for delivery. Does this seem reasonable? Anybody out there know of a cheaper UK supply?

The price was for a set of 4 rim embellishers I think, no the rims.

As I understand it UK legislation now prevents the welding of bands into the rims to widen your wheels. You therefore have to go abroad or find a specialist who can replace the entire rim with a wider one.

A few tips though, try Scandcar in the Netherlands for a quote - www.scandcar.nl as I know that they supply these rims too. Also have a chat to Andy Rowlands (He runs the Amazon register for the club) as he was trying to find a way of acquiring some widened rims recently and might have a supplier by now.

Please feed back with progress as I will be needing a set myself within the next 12 months.

Good luck

Harvey

Yeah, you're right Harvey, however they do sell the 6" wheels, these can be seen on page 4 of the Nordicar parts pages.

I don't know the price of these though.

I am that guy from New Zealand and you can see my Amazon restoration page here: http://volvoadventures.com/amazon.html It may be useful to read the section at the bottom of the page about offset....
