Smoking Steering Wheel !

There is smoke coming from the steering wheel when the ignition switch is turned on, I tracked it back to the indicator stalk switch. The smoke stopped when I disconnected the four wires which are connected to it. Has anybody experienced this problem before or has anyone got any ideas of the cause? If it might be the switch has anyone got a spare.

Well it is now two weeks later and it feels like I am speaking to myself but for anyone new to Amazon's like myself who have a similar problem, the fault was found by removing the four wires which are connected to the indicator switch mechanism. I then reconnected them one by on until I found the culprit. This led me to the the back offside indicator. I changed the unit.....had a spare in the box of spares which came with the car...and hey presto sorted.
