View Full Version : Is this an outrageous price for replacement window!

Hi there, my boyfriend's Volvo 240 "F" reg has a smashed back window thanks to some little buggers with an air gun so he phoned Autoglass to see if he's covered for a replacement under his insurance policy - unfortunately he isn't...

Anyway they gave him a quote for a replacement rear screen which is £640.00??? Does anyone know if this is a normal sort of price? It seems a bit mad to me. He's not going ahead with it as he doesn't have the money anyway and is now wondering what to do.

Any input would be appreciated, is he being ripped off or should we start saving!

Thanks,

Louise

Which window is this? In the door or the fixed rear side window or the rear windscreen?

The rear windscreen is easy to replace yourself.

Thanks for the quick reply, it's the rear windscreen.

If he were to try and replace it himself any recommendations on a good place to get a replacement? (We're based in Manchester.)

Thanks,

Louise

The only place I can think of is Salvo of Nottingham.

www.salvogroup.co.uk I think.

Good luck.

Allways have just a few being dismantled.

If he has comp. insurance, then he should in fact be covered, as the term is glass cover, not just front windshield, and I,m sure the price they quoted is wrong.

Thanks very much for all your replies and advice. Unfortunately he isn't covered by his insurance as it's 3rd party, fire & theft (he lives in Manchester 14 where insurance is ridiculously expensive...).

Anyway he's done a temporary fit-up with some perspex and is away with work for a couple of weeks but says he thinks he'll look into getting one second hand and fitting it himself as someone has told him about a Volvo spares place in Manchester. He loves his Volvos and we did laugh at the fact that he bought this car for £200 and the new screen would cost more than triple that amount!!

He hasn't started looking yet as he's away but out of interest Dai how much would you be interested in for your spare window?

Thanks again for all your help and replies,

Louise x
