FOr no other reason than just having a chat, I am on my iPad on 3G (which is stupidly slow) on a caravan club site near St Mawes, having driven down here from Kent with my lovely 140k 2001 auto XC70, which I will be selling when I get back.

It is certainly superb to drive, & is a great car. there is a lot to feel good about (comfort, astonishing space, terrific power, utterly sure-footed and a really safe feeling) and I will replace it with a D5 because I am now going to be doing 20k per year & it is just too expensive at 22-28 mpg. The new Nivomat self levelling suspension struts have been fantastic. Should bleedin well be at the best part of £1000!

Got to say though, what a great car. coming up from my Skoda Scout it feels bigger, safer, and a much nicer place to be. So, if you have one for around £5k, &want to buy mine for around £3800 let me know!

Anyway, where is the wine...oh, here it is.......

Err, discuss...

Well St. Mawes is certainly a lovely place to be, and the weather seems to be picking up a bit too. Try to take the ferry to St. Anthony, it's magical over there! Then of course there's always the finest li'l ol' town in Cornwall ........!

Went on the King Harry ferry Tuesday, then took the park & ride to Famouth. All we needed was a bike link & Skateboard connection & we would have used a most every form of transport available!

I test drove an amphibious car two weeks ago, ideal for round here!

My daughters were amused anyway, wondering what form of transport we were going to board next! What a fab part of the UK.

So glad you're enjoying it. I saw an Amphicar near here a year or two back, at Lerryn. It just drove down the slipway and into the river, certainly gave some bystanders a bit of a shock! I only knew about them because my Dad told me, years ago, but I think that was the first time I'd seen one in action. We have to be satisfied with a ten-foot dinghy - unless the 240 floats, of course! King Harry's a lovely trip, and Trelissick is worth a visit too if you have time.

Sorry about the travelogue, I'm starting to volunteer at the TIC so it's good practice!

Although from Sweden, I have a lot of memories from the places you mention. I used to work for a Swedish company which bought a business in Falmouth, so I've spent many weeks in the area. That business is now relocated to inland Redruth.
Don't forget to take a look at Pendennis castle.

Went to the Eden Project today, which was brilliant, if somewhat tiring. Loved the steamy rainforest biodome, gets pretty hot in there!

Fellow caravaner was telling me his old 740 was much more reliable than the 12 month old XC70 he has. reckons it is too technical now.

Last few years have taken a choir to sing carols in the Keep at Pendennis, very atmospheric on a late December afternoon! They're not doing it this year though, unfortunately; was looking forward to being in the audience instead of organising everybody.

It's an amazing place, I agree, and well worth a visit.

You must be pleased that we all admire those Swedish cars so much!

One of the reasons we wanted the 240, after years with a (rather modified) Morris Traveller, was that for a modern-ish car it was fairly uncomplicated so easy for non-specialist garages to work on. Really can hardly fault it, and it's much better looking than the modern ones too! Now, how many people have I just offended??

Rock is beautiful, as is Padstow...and dont forget to take in a pint or two of Doom Bar by Sharp's whilst you are down there, a really fantastic ale brewed in the locality and the fastest growing real ale in the London area currently....

I'm off for a couple now!

I love this, VOC working so hard on behalf of Visit Cornwall. Keep up the good work, but sorry, no commissions offered, just the enjoyment of a superb holiday destination!

Cornwall does have its fair share of grotty bits, and some disappointments perhaps (eg Lands End) but all the places mentioned here are well worth a visit, though sometimes a bit crowded at this time of year.

Doom Bar is indeed excellent. Last pint I had was in Wells, Somerset. Other favourite places of mine in Cornwall are Sennen Cove, Falmouth and Porthleven. Last Cornish holiday we had was at Ocean Blue self-catering at Treyarnon Bay, bootiful! There is also a caravan site there.

Looks as if you'll have to extend your holiday to take in all the excellent places, Captain Kremen!

As a Cornishman thank you for visiting the most beautiful county in the UK!
The Geevor tin mine is a good visit as is Zennor and the "Tinners Arms" and of course Cape Cornwall nearby.
Lovely food, beer and people, oh and some good sites to see as well. Agree that Lands End is a let down. Plenty of other fascinating places. Take the train from Hayle into St Ives, very cheap and easiest way to see St Ives as the parking is awful in the town.
Enjoy, wish I was there.

And the sun was out today! who could ask for more?

Did a tour yesterday just following the narrow Coastal roads, & was followed by two turn of the century steam cars just near Portloe, they were hammering along as well! Made me realise how wide the V70 is every time I met on coming vehicles.

Mevagisy was just too crowded though. too many cars, shame, lovely little village.

And NONE of you have yet visited beautiful, historic, friendly Lostwithiel, the Antiques Capital of Cornwall. Free parking, wonderful food, and today the fortnightly Produce Market with, among other things, excellent traditional Cornish bakes and cakes!

My father drove a Stanley steamcar, thought they were wonderful, the transport of the future! I remember seeing a White steamcar in Marazion about fifty years ago but Dad didn't like them so much.

Got nearly £10 put aside as we speak.

Went to the beach this afternoon, unbelieivable considering the monsoons we had in the morning.

Actually got on the sea in my kayak! Fantastic!

As I work for a brewery, i cant condone the unfair duty treatment that cider receives....

Been sunny for the last two days, so been on the beach with my two daughters, wife & kayak. Cornwall has a truly spectacular coastline, who needs exotic destinations?

Could do with a new battery though, my Volvo one keeps going flat. Just as well I am here with friends to jump start the car from. His car that is. can't jump start a car from friends. No where to plug the jump leads for a start.

Where is my cider? ah, there it is, just needs another refill..
