As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am thinking of coming back to the "fold" and would be buying a 240 estate, I have found this one on the bay and wondered what people think of it.

it seems a great car at a very resonable price , but take care when buying any car remember buyer beware, it is sold as seen, can you go and look at it.my advice is go and see it if you cannot see it before you buy then look for another .sorry if this sounds bad but read about the man who bought a v70 from a dealer on e bay,its on the volvo site if he had not bought from a dealer ,well at least he got his money back, good luck and be carefull.

Looks like a nice 240se.I wouldn't buy it without looking at it first though.
The late ones are prone to laquer peeling so check carefully.
Make sure all the dash lights go out once started especially the lambda light.
If you drive it make sure it revs freely up to 4000rpm.

that looks like a very nice motor the seller seems to be genuine (but you never know) at least you can go and inspect the car before you bid which is a bonus if you do go to purchase make sure you give it a thorough inspection before you part with any money and if anything sounds slightly odd just walk away. good luck with your search.

Bit concerned about the sunroof though, is it an after market one? or one fitted by Volvo? Also where the owner talks about the corrosion and paying Volvo a bit extra to stop the car from rusting, is that correct?

looks like it came with a corrosion warranty and part of that was to have the bodywork inspected at the service interval.A bit of remedial work was done at those checks I presume.

My advice would always be to look for the 2.3 engine

My advice would always be to look for the 2.3 engine

Why the 2.3 engine?? My last 240 had a 2.0 engine with auto box, it was OK.

the 2.3 engine doesnt have to work as hard as a 1.9 or 2.1

i have to look for the official figures, but i believe the 2.3 is slightly more economical.

I do know for the 9 series the mpg for the 3.0 litre engine
are better than for the 2.5 engine

If you are after a 240 estate, I may be able to help you, I have currently got a lovely 240 estate in red sitting outside my houise, Iam looking after it for another member on here (My Minty) and I think she wants to sell it to get a smaller car, send me a PM if you are interested, its a nice looking motor on a K reg, I will need to talk to her first but let me know any way

Don't really want one in red, looking more for a white or blue one.

Cheers for the suggestion though.

It's the same as the one in my 1989 model. Look closely (the glass at the front, and by the handle mechanism), you can see it says Volvo on it.
