Lost an old friend today after having it for almost 31 years.

My trusty garden spade has given up. Went to dig a hole today and it creased up, folded like a paper. Only cost about £5 from Debenhams all those years ago and its noe in the skip. Not bad for £5 I think.

Can't you dig a hole and bury it...... Or is that just too insensitive of me seeing as you probably don't have anything to dig with?

As its done a lot of digging over the years, it seems only fitting that it should be recycled downt tip so as could make another or a fork perhaps. Sad, so sad. And have you seen how much a new one costs?

My dad had the same spade for almost 40 years.

It only needed 3 new heads and 5 new bodies in the time he had it!

I'd be contacting who-ever the manufacturer was. 31 years ?? Obviously not fit for purpose. Write to them with a pic and they might send you a new one.

I bought a stainless one.
It's lovely and shiny, and it's great for digging where somone else has already dug up the ground before you, but show it a bit of compacted hardened ground and it crumples like a wet tissue, at least I'm learning panel beating!

Got a new spade at last. If this one lasts as long, they can use it to dig my hole!
