Hello,

I have a 2000 V40. The heater/defroster does not blow hot air anymore. The fan and the incremental settings on the control dial still work, but thing only blows cold air. Now that it's getting colder, the 'no-hot-air-thing' is bad. The temperature gauge in the instrument panel still appears to work (it goes up and down as the car gets warmer/colder), so I assume that the thermostat still works?

Is it the heater's element, the control panel or some strange solenoid somewhere? I'm not sure how to check without taking it to a shop, or just replacing the part and hoping it works. Any advice is welcome.

In addition, I noticed that the electrical fan on the radiator now always stays on after the car is turned off, no matter how short the trip or how cold it is outside. I'm wondering if these are related.

Again, any advice is welcome. Thank you very much!

You should re-post in the relevant section (S/V40 1996-2004) here:

There have a been a lot of recent posts there about heater problems, thermostats and engine temperature sensors, so I sense that heater expertise is at a good level at present. Good luck.
