Ive just been under the bonnet of my 1992 480 1.7i And have found an unconnected yellow wire near the alternator. It has obviously come out of somewhere since it is stripped and bare. It comes out of a cluster of wires that have been insulated together right next to the back connections on the alternator. Any ideas????

The wire is from the oil pressure gauge, and therefore not problematic. They fit the loom regardless of the instrumentation. Perhaps your car had a gauge but it was disconnected later. Just put some tape on it and stick it out of the way.
Wiring diagram in Haynes manual suggests the same.

On both my Turbo's one of the pipes that runs next to the pressure sensor likes to flop over and rub on the wires. Eventually it would strip and snap the wires.
