I have a 1996 460 TD, which I recently bought from a friend. He informed me that the clutch had sometimes slipped over a period of 2-3 years, then he had a new (non -Volvo) clutch fitted about a year ago. This did not solve the problem and my friend concluded that there had to be a fault with the clutch cable itself. However, I tested the free movement of the cable, both in and out of the car and could not find any sticking or undue resistance. The release arm is adjusted correctly, according to the Haynes manual and there is no excessive pull on the arm when the cable/pedal are at rest.I have now stripped out the clutch and removed the flywheel.Apart from the expected burn marks on both pressure plate and flywheel, the latter also has radial cracks on the face, mostly fine, but a couple of larger, deeper ones.Has anyone had a similar problem and found the solution?
