Got another question regarding the lights on a 440 si 1994.

I don't know if i'm going mad :P or what but every other volvo 440 that i have seen (be it old or newer) seems to have a different rear light cluster to mine.

If you look at your drivers side rear light cluster how many levels do you have and where about's is your reverse light.

I have three levels with the reverse light set in the middle of the second level. is this normal?

Also does anyone else have only one fog light, my near side unit's whole is blanked off, is this how it's meant to be or have i just got a part finished unit.

Hope this makes sense :-)

Cheers

There were two diff light clusters on the 440's. Early models had the black strips separating the lights, face lift models had no black strips, and IIRC slightly different cluster layout.

Thanks for that.

Guess i just haven't been looking as much as i though i was.

Does anyone have an idea on price for one of these?

Hi...

The facelift models two styles of rear clusters. They both have 3 levels, but the earlier of the facelift models (K-M/N) had orange glass next to the reverse light with normal bulbs, and the later facelifts (M-P) had clear glass next to the reverse lights with orange bulbs. I upgraded mine from the orange glass to the clear glass, as it tidied the rear up a bit. I found mine down a little non-Volvo related scrapyard and cost me £15 with circuitry and bulbs for the pair, and they were VGC. However, a few specialist Volvo breakers wanted £40-£50 per pair, without the bulbs or the boards! If you do find a pair yourself, and intend on removing them yourself, watch how you remove them-the glass that curves round the corner of the rear panel is very brittle. The water seal is very strong stuff! Took a fair bit of brute force to push them out from the inside of the boot-and to do it evenly so the foglight end didn't push out before the wrap-round corner end and snap it with the leverage.

I know you didn't ask for all that advice, but i had a little time to kill and it may just come in handy! :9

Cheers Dan

I didn't know they did a clear indicator for the 440, i'll keep my eye out for a set.

Thanks

Here is the rear cluster you will be looking for.

Mine had these lights too.

May I suggest Daniel M, that you get the matching surround for the number plate? It tidies up the rear end even more. Nice car by the way!!

Hi Dan
I`ve been after the reflective numberplate surround for ages, but not been able to get one-i saw 2, but both were so brittle they snapped when i tried to get them off! I also debated getting a black one, sanding it down and colourcoding it, but thought that might be a tad cheesy!

Thanks for the compliment, and i'm touched that you used my car! :7

I think yo ushould just do what I did and go to your dealer and bite the bullet and buy a new one. They are quite expensive, but you do get fitting instructions and it is all glued up and ready to go.

No worries. I loved my 440(s) and looking at your car made me wish I had gone for 17" wheels when I had it!

Mine had 15" TSW Imolas on it.

Hi Dan F...

Nice 440 you had there, rare with cruise control too-i looked at a 440 2.0i that colour, and it was VGC, but before i got the chance to go the 140 miles to see it (had alot of trouble finding a 2.0i in GOOD condition you see), it got sold! Quite an un-common colour too. Very nice.

Also considered multi-spoke Imolas's for mine, but my GF had them on her Clio and i didn't want it to look like a boyfriend/girlfriend matching wheel thing!

Also considered 18's for the arches too, as they are quite big arches-sometimes they make the 17's look small! But unfortunatly, i couldn't afford the arch work to go with it! Does look good on 17's though, even if i do say so myself!

Anyway, im off-must continue the hunt for the illusive 440 Bodykit!!

Hi Dan M.

Cruise control was indeed rare, and it had a/c as well. Lovely car that, but it went to make way for a 2.0T S40. The dealer was so impressed with the 440 they used it as staff transport. It had 151,000 miles on it and was still going strong when I passed it on. :-)

The 460 you put on the gallery looks very like the one I have posted earlier on in the 400 series gallery, but with a respray.
Check out my photo from earlier. The car is a pre facelift model with a new front end but with the old front bumper.

You can see it is a pre- 1991 model by looking at the mirrors.

Later dude,
Dan.

Hi Dan

Didn't realise someone had already posted the 460. It is a very tidy conversion-shame he couldnt change the wing mirroirs too-but i suppose you then would think its just a new shape 460 rather than notice the work he's put in to it. I like the black grille too, looks good with the paint work.

Upgraded to an S40-good choice. I'd like to upgrade, but as i'm still at College (despite being 22!!) i think it's a bit of a tall order. I think i'd like to experience a T5 first too, maybe an older model one-they seem to be a little cheaper than some of the S40's, so i'll make an S40 something to aim for in the next 4 years (Fingers Crossed)!

So, tell me a little about your S40....

I have had 2 S40s.

A 1998 2.0T base spec with loads of options on it (leather, A/C cruise etc) and a 1999 T4 CD top of the range motor.

The 2.0T was a great car. I put a controlled bleed on it and got T4 busting performance out of it with just that in place. Used Optimax however.

Put the same bleed on the T4 and it absolutely flew. Over 200 BHP at the wheels on the dyno!! From just a bleed and a K&N panel filter!!

You can see piccies in the gallery of my cars.

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=33

The T4 was the best of the 2 but it developed a dodgey MAF at one point and that was nearly £500 to replace but the car went so much better afterwards!!

You can see a pic of my C70 T5 as well in there. I have changed it a bit now and will be posting pics asap.

Dan.

I can also vouch for the 2.0T's. Lovely cars to drive and everyone (inc me before I asked about them here) underestimates them.

Bleed Valve and Panel Filter to come when the other half agrees...

Hi Stu. I still have my adjustable bleed available if you are interested!! ;-)

My 2.0T was a great car and I reckon it had the better gear ratios as well. You could get to 62mph in second with the 2.0T but only to 57mph with the T4 so the 0-62 times were affected by the gear chnage from 2nd to 3rd in the T4.

Make sure that high octane fuel is the order of the day once modded.

Dan.
