Motorclimate im Bordesley Green have a great reputation. I've ordered parts from them but being in London I've never used their service facilities. They're probably expensive but I would think they'd do a good job.

Don't use a 'Death Kit' unless you're selling the car quickly ;)

i believe pettaw is refering to these self charging cans you can purchase at car shops, as being the death kit.

How ofter would the aircon on a car need regassing?, I was suprised to find that my air con is not cold at all, and needed it this week!

Depends who you ask - an aircon specialist will say every year! Mine struggled last year (5 year old car) so I dug through the paperwork and found nothing so went to the local aircon place. There wasn't much gas in there so a re-charge sorted it out (no leaks) so I'd guess every 2-3 years if there are no other problems...............

Dealers, apparently, avoid it like the plague.

Mine is 3 and a half so I would guess now is about right, as far as I know it has never been done before

How much did it cost??

About £80 - it was a local place that does van conversions (fits them with refrigeration units) that I drive past on the way to work - they had a board outside to catch the commuters, apparently they had 10 telephone enquiries while I was there!

I expect you'll find something similar near you. I think the cost was average judging by other comments I've seen.

they recomend it is regassed every year! which i think is a little over the top. as a rule of thumb though, it looses the refridgerent at about 15% per year. if you have a slight leak on a joint or whatever, it is signifently more.
a thermometer placed in the air vent should read 4 to 5c this is the optimum tempreture.
