OK, I'm sure I'm not the only one in the North West, so I'm up for starting a North West chapter of the club.

Please indicate your level of interest using the voting buttons below, I'll be sending a formal letter out with the next edition of the magazine but thought this was a good way to get advance notice of how many people are interested.

Joe

I've been in conversation with Bob, top dog at VOC, about setting up a NW Regional group, seeing as it doesn't exist at this moment in time.

The chap i need to contact about setting up a 'proper' NW branch is away overseas right now, I will contact him on his return.

You beat me to the poll, well done that man :)

I'm also very close to you .... I'm in Ashton, Tameside

Ashton? I've just moved from Stalybridge. :) Whereabouts are you?

Let me know if you ever need parts from GSF, I pass their Swinton branch every day on my way to / from work at Salford Council...

Would you be up for doing some of the admin if we do get a regional branch set up?

Can also recommend a garage who have worked on all my Volvos (they're not a main dealer but they know Volvos) if you're not already sorted out.

StaleyVegas, huh?

I currently live at Guide Bridge but moving to St. Albans Estate (near St Damiens School) in early June.

Sure glad someone else is up for this NW VOC thing ... I was a bit worried about the volume of work involved, a problems shared .... as they say, eh??

Which garage you have in mind?
I have a years warranty on my S60, so may stick to main dealer for this 1st year, I was considering Trevor Burgess in Hyde/Mottram as the 'independant'.

Who or what is GSF??
Salford Council? What you do?
I'm a civil engineer with Tameside Council!!! :mumbles:

StalyVegas indeed, that's why I left. It used to be that it was a nice quiet little town, then everyone + dog opened a bar, I could go on about drunk slappers rolling about in the street, entire rugby teams smashing windows for fun, etc etc, but I won't. :)

GSF is German, Sewedish and French (car parts), they do OEM stuff for Volvos, often quite cheap, and are far easier to deal with than main dealers. www.gsf.co.uk will tell you more.

I'm a (wait for it) ICT Infrastructure Specialist at Salford, this means I am about as high as a geek can get in the networking / servers / etc side of things in IT without being a manager, and long may it remain so.

The garage I use is Whitelands Motors on Binns St / Tame St in Stalybridge, they've done me proud on every vehicle I've ever taken to them and know their stuff.

Interested in going to the UK meet near Peterborough on 18th June? For some reason the wife isn't, she seems to think cars are a practical means to an end only, blinkered I call it.

I would be interested in this, and would not mind helping out a bit, time permitting of course, busy job and two kids does not help!

Stalyvegas is great, had a few good nights out there, a mate of mine lives there, and I used to work on Egerton Street in Denton, any excuse was made for a night out

seany
May 16th, 2006, 15:52
Mine?

It's great.

Effortless cruising with the auto box.
Done all of 100 miles in it sice Friday :mumbles:

One minor niggle, every other time i start her up, I get the 'all too common' bulb failure warning for a rear position light. First time it happened I knocked on the red lens and it came back on. I have since swapped bulbs around in the holder and still the same bulb position (not the same bulb) doesnt always come on as soon as I turn the ignition. 30 seconds later and it is on again, so it is either a dodgy conection between bulb and holder or dodgy wire connection to it ... I think the former!!!

I will get it seen to if I cant fix it myself!

Still, doesn't affect the enjoyment of the car.

It feels so much more powerful than my old 1996 Vx Omega V6 Auto (170bhp) I traded in 3 years ago for the Picasso I just got rid of.

Looking forward to giving it a long run next weekend :)

Brewster
May 16th, 2006, 16:21
I had the same fault with mine, the bulb was on its way out changed the bulb and fine no issue, I am sure there will be someone who can look at it on Sunday if needed

Sorry just seen your comment about not the same bulb, might just be a dirty connection

seany

LOL .... I have no problem with Yorkshire at all.
Just playing on the Lancs/Yorks rivalries ;)

Besides, ma mum is a Yorkshire Lass. Her sister still lives in Heddon, and my younger brother lives in Wetherby, having lived in Harrogate for about 7 years.

I left home at 19, for work reasons, in 1989. My Mum n Dad then 'retired' to Bridlington (taking my youngest bro with them) and spent a year or two in Bempton. Mum n Dad went back to Newark about 10 years ago. My Mum still lives in Newark, as does my sister. I visit regularly. I venture over to visit my bro every 3 - 4 months or so.

Got family in Brum and Nottingham too :)

Not sure really, I don't know how many people there are in the others. We might get more members when something appears in Driver as there may well be Volvo people out there who don't do computers.

Guess we could ask Bob...

When i met my young girlie, i asked her where she was from.....
To which she replied 'Oldham'...

Hi all

As a new Volvo owner and new VOC member I think a NW Section is a great idea. I'm in 'sunny' Southport and no I have not yet reached retirement age!!!!!

The NW is a very large area if it is going to include everything from Chester to Cumbria (all?). Some thought would ahve be given to location of meets etc.

seany
Jun 23rd, 2006, 12:07
I'm quite happy to meet anywhere north of Watford Gap

I think there is a whole plethora of decent meeting places in the NW

Be it PH type establishments, or something more scenic

Once up n running, we could ask for/make suggestions for meets .... perhaps combine with the Volvo United meets too.:Banane45:

My geek level is getting a group shot of cars n owners!!

seany
Aug 6th, 2006, 13:34
Okey Dokey,

A suggestion or two!!!

Before we (myself, general Joe and Brewster) go balls out to set up a north west members 'group', perhaps we should organise a meeting locally, (try to centralise it for everyone) so that we can discuss what we want from the group. It will at least give us an idea of how to go about things.

Around the same time that General Joe started this thread, I PM'd Bob to see what needed to be done. This was his response ........

Yes I'm interested.

Can you give me any more info for me to be getting on with things?!!

Thanks in advance ....

His reply....

You need to discuss this with John Griffiths who is in charge of regional and local sections, and their setting up. He is presently away in Spain but will be back in a few weeks. His email address is john@griffithsxxx.xxxxx.co.uk (john@griffiths313.fsnet.co.uk).

So before I start conversing with John, are we all in agreement that we should meet first, discuss where we want to go with this, etc, etc. Heck, one of you may wanna run the show yourselves for all I know.

I'll be thinking of an 'area' to meet in, so we can then come up with some suggestions.......

Since there hasn't been much happening with the VOC North West Section, I would like to Invite all those who have replied to this thread, to attend the Scottish Section Meet at Gretna.

I have noticed from the poll, that there are a good number interested, maybe a meet up along with us, may get the ball rolling for meets in the North West.

That way interest can be judged, plus you will all be able do discuss it over lunch, not only that, but you can get some Christmas Shopping done at the same time.

click the link for details, and hopefully meet some of you there!

If the NorthWest group meets in or near the North Sea then there is a problem with the geography: last time I looked the North Sea was EAST of the United Kingdom (but WEST of Europe).

I've only just found this topic, being too busy with 240s and 940s up till now......I assume that Cheshire counts as NorthWest - but it's really Middle Britain, since there's a large lump of real estate north of Carlisle...........

hi guys

The volvo300mania club is planning a meet in December or first week of Jan in the peak district.

Potential dates are 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of Dec and 6th of Jan.

All dates are Sundays.

The 480-europe club and C30 World clubs are also invited along with Turbobricks.

It would be fabulous to see some VOC members there and we can maybe make some progress on a North West Section? put some faces and cars to the posts :)

I'm starting post in the meeting section to further discuss this.

I'll update the posts once a date is decided!

looking forward to seeing you there!!
