Volvo will have the following cars available to drive at this year’s SMMT test day at Millbrook on 23 May:

* Volvo V50 sportswagon Sport: new D5 (180PS) engine – first opportunity to drive it!
* All-new Volvo C70 coupe/convertible: T5 (220PS)
* All-new Volvo C70 coupe/convertible: 2.4i (170PS)
* Volvo XC70 AWD: D5 – award-winning towcar
* Volvo V70 Bi-Fuel: CNG powered

Volvo V50 D5 Geartronic: new model
The V50 D5 has literally just arrived on the press fleet so the SMMT test day will be the first opportunity for the UK media to drive it. The Volvo
D5 engine, already available with the S60, S80, V70, XC70 and XC90, is being introduced to both the Volvo S40 saloon and V50 sportswagon offering 180PS, 350Nm of torque from 1,750rpm, 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.

All-new Volvo C70: coupe/convertible
The all-new C70 launched earlier this year transforms from a stylish coupe to a sleek convertible in less than 30 seconds, so will be much in demand no matter the weather conditions at Millbrook this year. Both petrol engined versions – the 2.4i and range-topping T5 will be available to drive. Be sure to try out the 910W Dynaudio Premium sound system, too.

Volvo XC70 AWD: D5 – award-winning towcar The Volvo XC70 offers the SUV-like ground clearance in a Volvo estate body and AWD with Instant Traction™. The XC70 with the new 185PS D5 turbodiesel engine introduced last year proved it had the power to perform by collecting two category wins at The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards 2006.

Volvo V70 Bi-Fuel: gas-powered
Volvo continues to be the only manufacturer to build a Bi-fuel car on the same production lines as its standard models and to sell a CNG-powered car in the UK. Naturally, it’s fully crash tested at the award-winning Volvo Safety Centre, sold with the full, three year warranty and designed to be completely integrated into the car, with gas tanks under the load floor so as not to impede luggage space and with a filling point behind the regular fuel filler cap. The car smoothly switches from running on petrol or CNG at the touch of a button and offers cleaner, lower emissions of 169 g/km when running on CNG compared to 215 g/km when running on petrol.

Kelly Day: new press officer
Kelly Day, who has temporarily been running the Volvo press fleet since Sarah Atkins was seconded to another department, is now taking on the role of press officer permanently. Kelly is looking forward to meeting lots of new faces at the SMMT test day. Please come and say hello!

Sarah has enjoyed her experience and been very successful in her new role in Volvo’s car distribution department liaising with the Volvo dealer network and sales force, and has decided to accept an offer to stay there.
