Hi folks,
I've just acquired a V50 1.8 '54.
Took it for a thorough test drive everything seemed fine. Two days after purchase I'm finding some white smoke coming from the exhaust. Pulling away from stationary I left a plume of thick white smoke behind & when changing gear I notice some too.
Is this anything to worry about?

On a diesel, it's a sign of unburnt fuel.
It can be caused by dodgy glow plugs, poor compression, malfunctioning injectors......
I'm assuming your 1.8 is a petrol though......?

I know nothing about petrols:(

Not normally a good thing was the car warmed up? Normally means burnt oil as it's not got a turbo it could be lining or rings or head gasket.

Check the oil level and see if you can smell petrol in it.

It might just be down to it being sat for a while and never driven hard and the egr is now letting some of the build up of crap go when you kane it.

If the oils fine maybe try a fuel system cleaner and a good run.

Good luck

It seems to have cleared up, but I think I can smell petrol, kind of gets you in the back of your throat.
If it is petrol, what's the diagnosis?

White smoke is water.
Could be your head gasket that has seen it.
If it smells like gas it's because gas enters your coolant from the head. Smell your coolant. It should be the head gasket if the water smells.
