When I start the car, the dash displays a message that reads "time for a service" or something along these lines.

I serviced the car about 4000 miles ago when I got the car. - oil and fuel filter, oil, pollen filter etc etc.

The car is a 2004 V50 and has done about 104k miles.

What the message about and how can I reset it?
Cheers.

Have a look at post #2 in the following link, I give the manual instructions on how to reset the SRI (Service Reminder Indicator).

Usually best reset after a service so that the next time it comes up it will indicate at the correct time.

Cheers for the help guys, its just the cars service reminder then. Any idea how long between each service alert?

Thanks for the link to reset it, next month I will take the car to a local Volvo specialist to have the HID's looked at, and the belts done. Ill get them to reset it then!

It is hard to give a straight definitive as it is calculated from:

Time - Triggered approx. 12 months from last reset if low mileage user
Mileage - Triggered if XXXX amount of mileage is done since last reset
Hours - Triggered if XXX amount of hours of running has been clocked since last reset (IIRC 850 hrs)

With the hours you would either have to do an excessive amount of static running or be in such a congested place to run them up without triggering the Mileage count.
