Hi,

My 08 V50 D5 started spluttering last week, it still drove but wasnt right.

I took it to my mechanic... (not Volvo) who sent the injectors away to be checked and they came back fine.. He checked the manifold to see if something was sticking, but found nothing. He said he still thinks its the Injectors and that will be around £1000 to replace etc...

Has anyone else had the same issue with the D5 engine?

Not sure what to do, Would the volvo garage computer pick the problem up?

any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Gary

Have you had the car error codes read by anyone yet? If not that is the first place to start. Vida/Dice can do an injector check.

I doubt it will be the injectors and if it is then it is most likely to be just one injector and not them all.

My first port of call would be to have the fuel filter replaced and ensure I was using good diesel. What led your mechanic to believe it is the injectors and not a fuel delivery problem (pre injectors)?

I echo SonyVaio's advice.
Also, how much were you charged for the injector removal and testing?

Thanks for the advice,

The mechanic is not a volvo specialist, just a general. I do trust him as ive used him for years on other cars, However as you say, he might not have the Volvo software to pick up the problem. Ill try a fella called peter irving who is the volvo indi round my way.

The mechanic just said it was his feeling that it was the injectors, but as you say, I dont want to pay £1000 if i dont have to... He hasnt given me the bill yet for testing, It wont be much i doubt. he has never ripped me off before.

Im know nothing about cars really, would Volvo specific computer check pick up the problem? Im not sure what the mechanic used.

Thanks again.

There may be a member in your area with Vida/Dice that can read your car for you and initiate the injector check, worth an ask. pop up a new post asking for members in Workington area with VidaDice - help! Then put a link in to this thread.

There has got to be someone in the Carlisle area. If not then you'd be looking at £90 fee from Volvo for a diagnostic (read the car with Vida/Dice).
