Hi all,
I had my 2006 v50 d5 serviced the other day. It was a basic service, oil, filters etc, as I've only had the car a few weeks and it was due a service (12,000 since last) and I wanted to see if it threw up any nasty errors or issues etc.
Luckily it didn't, however 2 days later, got in and started the car and got the error message
"Engine system service required"
I've done a bit of reading on these forums but can't seem to get a straight answer. Is this a massive issue, or simply caused by the garage overfilling the new oil?
Also I've got it booked in tomorrow for a new cam belt as it's passed the 76,000 mile threshold and don't fancy chancing it snapping and the associated mind boggling repair costs etc.
I will speak to the garage tomorrow about the error, but just wanted some advice about what it may be? Is it very serious? How is it resolved?

Thanks in advance.

Could be just about anything, have the codes read and take it from there.

Almost guarantee that the garage has overfilled your engine with oil.

This is an indication that the garage you are dealing with doesn't know really what they are doing with your pride and joy, the MAX point was revised and now should be 2/3 to 3/4 the way up between MIN and MAX mark.

As your car is telling you then I'm guessing your car got the software update from the 'recall' that was issued and also a sticker telling you that 3/4 is the MAX level for the oil should have been placed near the dipsick?? It is possible the sticker has been taken off though.

D5's suffered from rising oil level due to regen cycles for the DPF and as such the oil MAX level was revised and lowered. It would have been more beneficial if Volvo had issued new dipsticks as opposed to stickers though.

Resolution: remove some oil and ensure max level is set to 2/3 to 3/4 up the dipstick and then the message will disappear within a day or 2.

Many thanks Sony.
I will ensure that I speak to the garage tomorrow and get them to remove some of the oil which will hopefully solve it.
I agree about the new issue dipstick.... But commonsense does not always prevail?!
Fingers crossed it will solve the issue and my pride and joy (as you so accurately describe it) will have fresh oil, filters, and cam belt. I also installed some led bulbs today and got a new dog guard on its way to me in the post. Will get some more pictures up soon!
Thanks for the advice again!
Rob.
