Hi
Had this error code during a dealer service yesterday. Quoted £256 to replace. They say they would leave it.
I've tried searching the code but could anyone explain what this code means and what the fault symptoms are ? and is there anything I can clean or try fixing first ?

Thanks

Its a little sensor situated in the air intake under the front nearside cowling above the engine bay (below the wipers). A little fiddly to replace but certainly an easy DIY job but the sensor from Volvo is about £120 when I last checked. It just means that the air quality feature on your aircon won't work as it should ie when working it sniffs at the air and if it detects pollutants it closes the air intake vent and diverts the already cleaned internal air around the cabin until it detects removal of the initially sniffed pollutant/smell and then reopens again.
Basically you may notice externally sourced smells in your car every now and again which you may not notice if it was working. Chances are its been like this for ages and if it hasnt bothered you up until now its unlikely to. I was told the same by Volvo but I like to see no error codes when I check the car so I sourced a second hand sensor and replaced it myself. TBH it doesn't make a massive difference! Hope that makes sense!

PS there is a similar part from Audi that is cheaper and apparently compatible with the system- I have posted it previously on here- do a search to find it if you fancy the job

Just had a quote of around £190 from Frf Swansea.
I did read it's the same part as a vw but the vw is a lot cheaper.

I sourced one from a scrapyard I think it was from the v70 volvo which is compatible. If you find my entry on fitting there are a few tips to avoid mishaps.

Thank you.

I've emailed them to see if they will sell me one as there doesn't seem to by a uk supplier.

I'm tempted to buy a used vw sensor but worried it may not work and I don't have the software to read the error codes.

I did see this one.

I wonder if it's really been tested and how ?

Same on my BMW, I read the codes, found it was faulty and replaced it with a used version for £12. In all honesty, I can't tell the difference with it working but I know it is as there are no codes...

I tried a new VW sensor from ebay and not only that it didn't work but it threw in tons of other errors (mostly "incompatible signal"). Fortunately all cleared up when I reinstalled the bad Volvo sensor.

The VW part, although it looks the same, is not compatible and will bring down the LIN bus. This will cause several failures including cabin temp control on the LH side, LH seat heating, several dampers won't work incl. the recirculation damper, etc.

You can save money by fitting a Hella part which is the correct part. See
