My daughter is looking to follow my footsteps into Volvo ownership and get a V50. I know V70's very well ..not V50's.
As she only does about 6K-8K per year I am steering her towards petrol, rather than diesel, and know ( thanks Clan) if she did consider diesel check the 8th VIN character is NOT a 5, I think all 1.6 and 2.4 diesels have DPF.
Her budget is about £8-£10k, and must have Cruise - so SE spec.
What do I need to watch out for- Electrics and suspension are the V70 Achilles heel, what about the V50?
Was there a cut off date when V50 moved from Euro 4 to Euro 5 ( ie had a DPF as standard ? - who would fit one as an option) that said petrols appear to be £1500 cheaper like for like.

Cheers

Well for better or worse we are getting a V50 1.8 petrol SE, 2010 with 30K.
Car looks mint, and I'm very happy for my daughter.
Only 2 slight issue - clutch pedal seems to engage a little higher than I would have liked - but no slip.
The internal alarm sensors appear to not work ( waggling an arm through open window) but opening a door triggers alarm.
VIDA reports no current faults :)
any thoughts/comments?

Cant go wrong with a 1.8 SE. I had one and it was dead easy to drive, maintain and wasn't lacking in the capability dept too much!

On both V50's I've had the clutch has bitten higher than you would expect for the mileage, but I think it's just the way they are... I wouldn't worry too much as the clutch should see you way past 150k.

On my T5 with 130k the clutch fells the same as the 1.8 V50 I had at 70k...... so go figure.....
