Afternoon,

Absolute amateur question I'm afraid, is this the coolant drain plug to the top left of the oil filter?

If so does the whole plug come out from the block or is just the end section as it looks a bit like the end third unscrews from the larger section that is screwed into the block?

Thanks,
Ben

yes that is the coolant drain **** , it is a tap so you undo the top part a turn or two and the coolant comes out .. If it does not it will be blocked with sediment so unscrew the whole thing and poke the hole through with a thin rod or screwdriver .

yes, you can take the whole part that unscrews out and blow compressed air in the hole. it will likely loosen up all kinds of crud so do this with a complete flush and refill.

Could that plug help me bleed air out of the system?

No...it's at the bottom of the Cooling System!...air will find its way to the top of CS and should be replaced with Coolant at either Radiator Filler or Expansion Bottle.
