problems i've had/got with mine are

boot wont open, the switch isnt working
deck error on cd changer
wheel bearing is whining (front)
steering wheel controls for stereo dont always work

so this could be things to look for.

Those are the only little niggles you'll see but add ignition ring onto that, the odd door module fault if locks or windows don't work (usually fixed with a hammer :P) and the odd squeak from the interior trim.

My S40 has suffered with the boot not opening but it was the microswitch, they are about a tenner from Volvo, a door lock doesn't work and will need replacing before long, and the C30 has had a pair of struts, springs and wheel bearings at 95k miles.

Agree with above: Boot micro-switch, top strut mounts at around 100k, odd rattles and squeaks from interior, 6CD auto changer gone doolally (£600!).

Mine chews through front tyres but that probably isn't helped by my driving.

Mechanically/engine wise - bulletproof.
